An antique painting of a village street scene lined with thatched roof houses, with a girl and an elderly man in conversation standing in the street. Brendekilde began his career as a social realist but his subjects evolved into more religious and idyllic village scenes. He studied sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts but changed to painting in 1881. Signed (lower left): H.A.B.
