Kempe traveled extensively in Europe and made several trips to Spain. He was interested in the School of Paris, a group of foreign artists living in Paris before WWI whose members included Picasso. Kempe was acquainted with Picasso and his cubist influence can be seen in this work. Selected collections: Brooklyn Museum, the National Museum in Stockholm and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
