The deep rose red field takes its pattern of detached floral sprays and other motives such as the two vases with radiating floral fans, from " American" style Sarouks of the period.A variety of blues, including a light powder blue-green provides most of the detail palette.Spots of dark red and tawny yellow accents the design. The navy main border of palmettes, bent leaves and rosettes is in the Sarouk style.
The weave is quite fine for a Lilian and the general quality, both in knotting and in attention to design details place it in the higher level of Lilian rugs. The condition is excellent with full pile almost everywhere. The foundation is all cotton with a single weft between knot rows. The spaciousness of the design is particularly eye-catching and characteristic of the Lilians from the 1920's. The last two pictures are taken outdoors and make the colours appear lighter. This Lilian has been cleaned professionally. For more information please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
