This particularly large format Navajo rug has a central pole medallion of 4 flattened lozenges, each edged with sharp brown black triangles, all on a natural grey ground.Except for smaller en suite devices in the field corners, there are no other elements to disturb the bold, wholly abstract pattern which seems to descend from Turkish Kilims.Navajo weavers of the transition period and later often worked from oriental, primarily Caucasian rugs provided by the traders. This is a rare example with a Turkish source.Like the Anatolian archetypes, this Navajo is long and relatively narrow.Besides brown black and grey,a richly abrashed red and natural old ivory complete the austere colour palette. The condition is very good with the original sides and ends, and no surface wear. For further information please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
