This is a fine example of the "eye-dazzler" pattern popular among various Navajo subtribes. The nested sawtooth lozenges are detailed in ivory,black-dark brown, variegated grey and dyed red.The pattern is infinitely extensible in all directions.natural and dyed wool is used for the brown-black,grey and ivory.Note the extra grey border at each end of the field. The wide ivory end panels are unusual and give a strong vertical closure. The colour joins are crisp and clear, with no colour run from the red as is unfortunately often the case with Navajo rugs. The wool comes from the churro sheep local to the area. The condition is very good. The handle is soft and flexible and the weave is medium.Adjoining colours share warps and there are no slits to disrupt the pattern. This Navajo rug has been cleaned professionally and is free of any stains or odors. The wholly abstract pattern allows this rug to be useful as a wall-hanging or as a furniture throw.
