We are pleased to offer this all-over design Persian Karadja circa 1920,measuring 6.3 x 5 ft. Karadja is a village in the northeast of Heriz, all part of the province of Azerbaijan in northwest of Iran.Together,Karadja and Heriz, are recognized as the biggest and the most important producers of geometric pattern rugs in Iran.Karadja rugs are woven slightly different from Heriz pieces. They are single wefted, which leads to a softer and more pliable handle than most Heriz rugs. The most prevalent design employed in Karadja is one with three distinctive medallions;usually the middle one is ivory and the other two are more often a blend of blues and greens depending on the color of the background. They generally come in red or rust field and on a much more limited basis, blue field. The rug presented here employs an all-over format of palmettes. I have never seen a Karadja weave rug in this design. It is a very unique piece with rustic tonality. It comes in an excellent, clean and solid condition, good for floor use for many decades. The rug has been cleaned professionally and is free of any stains or odors. For more information please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
