The deep indigo field displays an unusual pattern of in-and-out straw yellow palmettes and bold two tone ( ivory & rust, light blue & medium brown ) straight, diagonal arabesques.Various shades of brown and camel and light red are among the accent colours.A rust border of stylized turtle palmette pattern en frames the whole. The foundation is all cotton with symmetric knots. This is a very attractive Goravan quality Heriz carpet. All the dyes are natural and, with the exception of the indigo, are the work of the weavers. The condition is excellent. The pile is slightly short, but even. The selvages are original and there are no repairs.
Most Goravans have either simplified medallion pattern or allover classic Persian designs. This example seems to be unique. The high artistic quality of this carpet shows that knot count and aesthetics need not go hand-in-hand.This is a true village carpet, and informal, with an abstract look totally its own and owing little to urban sources.
