The wool of this well drawn "American" style Sarouk rug is particularly high quality. The weave is fine with a firm, leathery texture resulting. In general the workmanship is of high quality and equals Kashan rugs of the same period.
The red field displays the characteristic Sarouk pattern of detached floral sprays, smoothly drawn. The pattern is well balanced and flows around a small ivory eight lobed medallion. The border has an in-and-out palmette design in a smaller scale than the field. The condition is excellent and the pile has no low areas or repairs. The patina resembles thick velvet. This is a good quality example of Sarouk weaving from the pre-WWII period. The red is warm and inviting. This Sarouk has been cleaned professionally and it is free of any stains or odors. For more information please email us or call us at 212-268-5876.
