For sale is a wonderfully decorated vase made by The Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. This vase has some size to it as it stands 11 7/8" tall and is approximately 5 1/2" in diameter at the shoulder. The top opening is small is it measures 2 1/2" outside measurements. The bottom foot has a diameter of 2 7/16".

The vase is of impressive size and is considered a tapered shoulder vase. The vase displays a landscape scene of rolling fields with clusters of tall trees in the foreground and on into the distance. It appears to be a hazy morning scene with mist or morning dew not yet burned off. The morning sky is blue in the sky yet the horizon is still pale yellow with the promise of a sunrise. The scene is located in the center of the body of the vessel and continues around the entire piece. There is no end or seam. There is a soft gray band at the shoulder of the vase that goes up to the top rim and a slightly darker gray band under the scene at the bottom of the vase. This finishes the piece nicely as it adds to that misty morning feel. The realism in the painting is outstanding as you can see.

The piece is considered to be in very good condition as there are no cracks, chips or dings. There is a professional restoration to a glaze bruise on the top lip. The piece is signed with Rookwood's impressed reverse "RP" and sunburst logo along with the roman numerals "XXII" for the year of manufacture, 1922. There is also the mold number "170" impressed under the date and an incised letter "V" for vellum. There are also the incised letter "FR" with the letter "F" being in reverse for the highly collected and very desirable Rookwood artist, Fred Rothenbusch.

This will make a wonderful addition to any Rookwood decorated mat pottery collection and would look just outstanding on that Stickley, mission, arts and crafts style bookcase.
