For sale is a wonderful arts and crafts hand hammered cigar ashtray. I am attributing this to have been made by Benedict Studios of East Syracuse, NY. The ash tray has some size to it as it measures 7 1/8" wide by 1 7/16" tall.
This ashtray has a wonderful hand hammered texture on copper with a wide holders for cigars. The style of the tray is very similar to Gustav Stickley. You can see round raised discs separate each holder. There are 6 of these holders. The patina is original and untouched. You can see black, brown and copper. Most of the copper you can see is on the underside.
This cigar ashtray is considered to be in very good to excellent condition as there are no cracks or major dents to the metal. There is a few edge indents but nothing too obtrusive. This is pictured and considered normal age wear. Some areas of patina are weaker than others but it is original as found. The underside bottom shows more patina wear than the inside. Most of the black is gone on the inside and you see more of the brown. The tray is not signed as is typical of Benedict Studios items. I live in New Hampshire and found this when I was in the Syracuse area at the end of September 2019.
This ashtray is early as it was made 1907-1915.
