For sale is a very nice piece of art glass made by The Union Glass Company (Kew Blas) of Somerville, Mass (1893-1927). The vase is considered a flower form. This vase has some size to it as it stands 12" tall and is 3 5/16" in diameter at the top outside measurements. The foot has a diameter of 3 7/8".

This vase displays a very nice shape that resembles the center Trumpet of a Daffodil flower. It sits on a round platform or foot with an applied stem that rises up and supports the tall slim, tapered and flared Trumpet shape. The exterior finish is slightly ribbed with a swirl to it. The glass is quite smooth to the face has an wonderful gold iridescence to it. The underside bottom has a rich fuchsia iridescence that is simply outstanding!! This vase looks metallic yet it is all so fragile glass.

This shape is very similar to LCT Tiffany's Favrile Trumpet flower form in gold. I actually thought it was Tiffany when I first found it. I can empathize how rare this vase is. I have been in the business for some 46 years and have thoroughly researched this piece and cannot find nor I have I ever seen another example of this form.

This trumpet vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. There is virtually no wear to the bottom underside foot. The inside of the vase shows minimal wear an virtually no calcium deposits when looking in and holding up the vase up to the light. The vase is properly signed on the bottom that reads "KEW-BLAS" etched inside the counter sunk polished pontil.

William Blake an employee of The Union Glass Company of Somerville, Mass produced a range of art glass called Kew-Blas, which was an anagram of his name. He did this during his employment with them. This vase is much rarer than Kew-Blas's contemporaries of the day such as L.C.T. Favrile, Steuben Aurene, Quezal and Loetz. They only blew this type of art glass for 8 years. It rivals the quality of LCT Tiffany Favrile and is quite similar.

It is said that some of their glass blowers worked for Tiffany and it seem evident with some of the glass this company blew. It is extremely similar to Tiffany's Gold Favrile style of art glass. This vase was made circa 1907-1915. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase.
