For sale is a wonderful piece of pottery made by The Weller Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The shape is a footed vase. This vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 3/4" tall and is approximately 4 1/2" in diameter at the bottom.
The vase displays a witches cauldron shape with 4 applied feet. The background glaze is done in one of Weller's most popular and highly collected glazes called "Bedford Matt Green". This vase has a wonderful arts and crafts theme of incised church windows. The church windows are geometric and are incised 2 over 2 and they are proportioned perfectly along the upper half of the vase.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The piece is is not signed but it does display that painted blue green bottom which is as good as a signature. This painted bottom is synonymous with Weller Pottery. This form in the Bedford Matt green line is considered quite rare. You would be hard pressed to find another. I cannot document a sale of this form on the Internet. The only thing close was the same form as a hanging planter. This vase was made early at the turn of the century circa 1915. A lovely piece of arts and crafts pottery to add to your collection.
