For sale is a lovely vase made by the Roseville Pottery Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The pattern is known as "Bleeding Heart" and the shape is a large basket vase. The basket has some size to it as it stands 10" tall, 9 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep at the foot.
This basket depicts a very pleasing pattern that consists of string of Bleeding Heart flowers that come out of the leaves at the center of the basket. The leaves drop down from the top lip at the left hand corner on each side. This pattern is on both sides but are not quite the same. One side has the strand of leaves pointing up to the corner and the opposite side pointing down.
The flowers are a salmon rose color with yellow points and sage green leaves. This pattern is set against a robins eggs blue background glaze. The inside of the basket is surround by a large round handle that comes ever so slightly to a point at the top middle. To finish this wonderful vase, it has a round foot where the handles meet the foot and the underside body.
This basket is in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The vase is signed with the raised relief "Roseville USA" signature along with the shape number 360-10". There is an 4 and 3 written in a blue grease pencil on the bottom as well as an incised 2 or Z. I believe this to be the finishers marks.
This basket is an excellent example of the Bleeding Heart pattern and form. This basket was made circa 1940.
