For sale is a beautiful piece of cameo art glass made in France at the turn of the century. I have a beautiful "Oriental Poppy" vase. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 3 7/8" tall and is 4 1/8" in diameter at the bulbous bottom. The opening at the top of the vase is 2 7/8" outside measurement.
The vase has a bulbous shape with a wide neck. The background is done in an acid etched texture that is similar to a glue chip texture. It has a grainy amber yellow with a green hue background texture. The inside of the glass is smooth. There is a single Oriental Poppy flower in full bloom rising up from the stem with a bud to the left just starting to bloom and and one to the right that hasn't even open yet. The pattern is predominately on one side of the vase. The detail in the flower is outstanding as you can see detailed pistils or stamens . You can see the veins in the leaves as well. The top of the vase is is polished smooth and is typical of European design. This vase was made by a master and resembles some Daum and Galle floral cameo cabinet vases I have seen in the past.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, chips, nicks or dings. The vase is not signed and more than likely had a paper label at one time. This vase was made at the turn of the century circa 1900-1920. This is a beautiful vase and I'm quite sure the buyer will quite pleased with their purchase. If anyone can share any information as to the maker of this wonderful vase would be greatly appreciated.
