For sale is a wonderful piece of art glass made by Josef Rindskopf of Bohemia which is now modern day Czech Republic. I call this pattern line a bulbous double gourd bud vase. The vase is a nice cabinet size as it stands 8 9/16" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter at the top at the bottom gourd. The foot of the vase has a diameter of 2 3/4".
The vase displays a wonderful Double Gourd form with a long neck to receive a long stem rose. It has a molded bottom with a raised vertical zipper like pattern that surrounds the entire bulbous bottom. The glass composition is similar to Loetz's silberiris decor but I feel much prettier. The bud vase bleeds from the top a wonderful teal green and getting ever so lighter as it works it way down to the bulbous bottom. Then green transitions into a lime green and a Cypriot type textured yellow at the bottom. The entire vase has iridescence to it with the top showing a deep purple blue iridescence unlit.
The vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The vase has a polished top rim with no pontil on the bottom. This means the vase was blown from the top into a mold and cut and polished. The vase is unsigned as is the case with Rindskopf Art Glass Vessels. This vase more than likely had a paper label at one time. This is documented decor from the Rindskopf but this is the first time I have ever seen it on this shape and with this glass composition.
This is a beautiful hand made vase and quite rare to find. I have been dealing in art glass for almost 40 years and this is the first time I have ever had this form with this pattern. Subsequently I would consider this a rare piece. I'm quite sure the buyer will be very pleased with their purchase. This vase was made at the turn of the century, Circa 1900-1910.
