This is a hundred year old two piece sad iron. The irons may say "Asbestos" but the asbestos was actually in the cover/handle that goes over the iron. These were much cooler for the person doing the ironing. There was also a bit of air space between the iron and the cover to help keep it cool. This brand flourished just before electric irons helped bring cooler, less fatiguing ironing days. The main selling point was the cool handle on a hot iron. The top section of the iron removes easily with a flip of a lever. The bottom section is solid iron and stamped with “Asbestos 72-B Sad Iron”. Size is 6 ½' in length.
