An interesting piece of toy history. Here are a pair of sad irons each measuring only 3 1/4” in length. One has a green wooden handle and the other red. I am told that the larger sad irons were often sold in pairs so that the user can always have one heating while the other is in use. Manufactured by Dover Manufacturing in Canal Dover Ohio and stamped on the top as “Lady Dover - Dover Ohio”. They have cast iron bases with metal top sections. Very nice original condition.
Dover Ohio on the Erie and Ohio canal was once the home of large iron and steel manufacturing mills and the area was know as the “Iron Valley”.
