This is an old cast iron automobile wheel-locking device from the early 1900’s. It consists of 2 heavy cast iron sections that are hinged at one end and locked at the other. The brass tag attached at one side reads,
” This car is protected by the Auto Theft-Signal System, $100 Reward for arrest and conviction as a thief of any person operating this car, or tampering with the Signal. Miller-Chapman Company manufacturers, Patented Aug 25, 1914, Los Angeles, California”.
The locking device will fit a Model A or earlier Model T Ford wheel & tire but it can be used on any car from the 1920's or earlier. The opening is 5 5/8" wide and 7 1/2" deep. This is a lot of fun to put on your car during a car show. It really draws a crowd. People love to see these early safety accessories. It still has two original keys.
It measures 10” X 5” X 1 ½”.
