This is an early mechanical nutmeg grater manufactured around 1890 by Edgar Manufacturing of 11 Harrison Street Reading Massachusetts. The grater was designed and patented by George H. Thomas who successfully received royalties on his patent for many years. This grater is in excellent working condition and even comes with a nutmeg nut. The device works by holding the wooden handle on the grater and sliding it back and forth. The holder for the nutmeg is spring-loaded and pushes up against the grater as it slides back and forth. Size is about 5 1/2” long.
