This is a slot machine type trade stimulator from the 1940's made by the Groetchen Tool & Mfg. Co in Chicago. These gambling machines were designed to sit on the counter tops at cigar stores to give the patrons a chance on winning a pack of cigarettes. For only one cent, the customer could play the machine by inserting the penny and pulling the handle. If they would line up three of a kind on the reels than a special token good for a pack of cigarettes is dispensed at the lower right side of the machine. The three reels have pictures of 7 different brands of cigarettes.
This vintage machine is in all original condition with the exception of a new lock on the back door and a coat of silver paint. The mechanism has been disassembled, cleaned and lubricated, The reels strips are the original 1940's strips and are still in very nice condition. The machine is in excellent cosmetic and working condition. A few of the special cigarette pack tokens will be included in the sale.
I was told the this machine was found in the attic area of an old La Fourche parish barroom in Louisiana in the 1940's.
Size is about 10” tall, 9” wide, and 10” deep. Weight is about 14 lbs.
