RARE and exquisite -- For the gentleman who is looking for a one-of-a-kind accessory! This Victorian carved shell cameo tie tack remains perfectly housed its original cut steel bezel frame. The backing is brass, and the cut steel pieces are individually riveted into the brass.
The cameo—possibly “Rebecca at the Well,” a popular Victorian theme—is flawless and intricately detailed.
The cut steel has an average of 12 facets, and is in beautiful condition with only the tiniest flecks of corrosion. The numerous facets, typical of early cut steel, make this piece full of life! . . . The little pin was laying in a dimly lit cabinet; yet the sparkle was so-eye catching, my first assumption was that the cameo was surrounded by rose cut diamonds (which was the point of cut steel jewelry).
The original back fastener has been sadly lost, but a contemporary tie tack works well. (We have one to include if purchaser would like it.)
Ladies, if you are in love with this little jewel, it would be fabulous worn as a brooch on your collar.
What an amazing find in nearly pristine condition . . . worthy to be proudly showcased with any cut steel or cameo collection!
3/4” in diameter, no markings
