An unusual Staffordshire Butter Dish with full figure reclining Cow on the lid. This figure measures approximately 6 3/4 inches in length by 5 1/4 inches in depth. It is about 4 3/4 inches in height overall. It is in very good condition for its age with some expected crazing to the glaze. The horns are copper lustre as is a band around the base. There is a registration diamond on the bottom that is unfortunately illegible. The English registration system allowed a pottery to protect its design or pattern for an initial period of three years. The diamonds were last used in 1883, after which a numbering system was used. This piece will date about 1870. An unusual piece for collectors of Staffordshire cow figures.
