An attractive pair of hand decorated Renaissance Revival Italian Faience/Majolica Plates. Borders with grotesque masks surrounding a central scene of a bust and two sphinxes and overall floral elements. The plates measure 9 1/4 inches in diameter and are in overall very good condition with some minor crazing and light pitting (that occurred in firing) and some minor light scratches. The backs show stilt marks and one plate has the remains of a glue on fabric holder that could be removed with a razor blade if it is a bother. No makers marks, but they should date to the second half of the 19th century.
