This is a colorful Jacquard woven coverlet that was made in Pennsylvania in the 19th century. The piece has a three color design with flowers, birds, and stars. The bottom two corners are signed and dated. It reads “J. ANDREWS MANOR TOWNSHIP FOR CATHERINE BROWN 1836”. A nice aspect of a Jacquard weave is that the design is reversible with different colors showing on each side.
The coverlet is 90” long with an additional 6” of fringe. The width is 80” with approximately an additional 5” on fringe on each side or 90” overall. It is constructed from two pieces that are stitched down the middle. There are no holes in the wool textile, but there are a few stains as seen in some photos. I did not attempt to clean the coverlet so with care the stains might be removed or reduced. It is shown in a photograph on top of a queen size bed.
