Another piece from the small collection of Chinese jars that we will be offering in Tangrams this month, this handsome liquor jar with cut brown glaze in the Cizhou style stands approx 5 1/2" high with an interior mouth diameter of approx 2 7/8". From the cord cut base and red paste, this is likely from a kiln in Jiangsu province close to Shanghai. It bears a partial jianding customs seal indicating that it is an authentic piece officially cleared for export within the past 50 years. We estimate the age to be 19th century, possibly earlier.
Condition: medium natural wear and kiln flaws; otherwise no damage, restoration or repair that we can spot.
