Another delightful Chinese item from an old estate, this piece started life as a cloisonne belt buckle, but at some later point the reverse fittings were removed so that it could be mounted for display. The long life character "shou" is flanked by two "lucky" bats and the whole enclosed in a
decorative border of auspicious elements. From the colors and typical pitting in the enamels, we are dating this to the Qianlong period of the 18th century and it was almost certainly cloisonne and gilt bronze. Traces of gilding remain, as does the character 金 (gold) incised into the reverse.
Size: 3.75 x 6.25 cms. Condition: usual pitting and wear to the cloisonne, some warping to the metal, some minor loss to the cloisonne on the upper wing of the left hand bat and in the border immediately above. Altogether a lovely example of antique cloisonne.
