A magnificent Yoruba Gelede Headress mask, with nice signs of usage. It has a deeply hollowed form with basketry and fabric interior, a single-crested coiffure above an elliptical facial plane with almond-shaped eyes, flaring nostrils and pursed lips; light brown patina with blue, black and yellow pigments. A shoulder "skirt" is attached via the usual holes. Approx: 17 1/2" high; 14" diameter at the opening.
Made for tribal use, this was dated to around 1900 to 1910 when we acquired it in the mid-1990's.
Condition: nice usage. Shoulder "skirt" with old repair, and also more recent split (please see photos). Please email with any questions.
