It features eleven filigree stations with smaller openwork elements dangling below, each terminating in an opalescent yellow drop. Additional drops are also suspended between the stations. It’s a beautiful design in a seldom found color.
The necklace measures 17-3/8” with the festoon section measuring 6-1/2” wide by 1-5/8” long. It secures with the original push-in barrel clasp and weighs 21.0 grams. Unmarked. Tests for sterling. This lovely old jewel’s in excellent condition with only a bit of discoloration on the clasp. The enamel is pristine.
Marius Hammer (1847 – 1927) was a prominent Norwegian jeweler who founded his firm in the late 19th century in the city of Bergen. Along with Jacob Tostrup and David Andersen, he was considered a pioneer in the development of enamel jewelry, of which this piece is a wonderful example.
