This is a rare original 1906 lithograph that came from an unbound portfolio of illustrations by Paul Helleu. (1859 – 1927). Purchased by us in Vannes, France, his place of birth. Helleu was a French oil painter, pastel artist, drypoint etcher, and designer, best known for his numerous portraits of beautiful society women of the Belle Époque. He is best known in the United States as the artist who created the ceiling mural of night skies for the Grand Central Terminal in New York City. This lithograph features a young child at play with her doll. The image has an evocative dramatic line quality. It is rich in detail; it exudes a soft beauty of an innocent child involved with her doll. It is signed by Helleu in lower right faintly seen. (see photo.) The line drawing is done in soft neutral deep brick red, gray and brown tones. Excellent, clean condition with no age markings. This image is original to 1906 and NOT a recent reproduction. Image size is 8.5 x 11 with a cream tone border. Outside measure is 9.5 x 12.
