RARE FIND! This lithograph entitled “Le Corset” dates to 1897 and comes from the “Autour d’Elles” album by famed French Belle Epoque artist, Henri Boutet. Boutet is well known worldwide for his etching, drypoint and engraving techniques with which he portrayed attractive young coquettish women of the time. His work can be found in private collections, galleries throughout the world as well as museums including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Boutet was known as the “le Petite Maitre au corset”, the little master of the corset. His images are of Parisiennes in a state of partial undress. His etching style evokes images of intrinsic softness of texture and delicacy. This image is an example of his candid and sensitive style reflecting close attention to detail and feminine beauty. The antique image is 8 ½ by 11 inches in size and is set off with a black outline. It is original to 1897 and NOT a recent reproduction.The signature is in the stone. It is in excellent condition.
