This is a matted vintage advertisement print for French Vicomte de Castellane Champagne that is original to 1950. It is NOT a recent reproduction. It originally appeared in a French Mid-century magazine as part of an article paying homage to most famous of poster artists from the early half of the 20th century. In 1902 the House de Castellane Champagne asked the famed Italian painter Leonetto Cappiello to design its first advertising poster. With this image, Cappiello developed a real patronage of poster art and is now highly esteemed and recognized internationally. This image touts one of the most prestigious houses of French Champagne dating back to the late 1890s. In its time Champagne became the symbol of fashion and party. This is a playful image that would work well in a bar setting, kitchen or dining area where family and friends enjoy good food, celebrate happy occasions or simply savor the taste of a great Champagne. This print is a prime example of the French propensity for style, flair and pizzazz in advertising art. 8 ½ by 11 ½ inches in size. Signed in the lithograph stone. It is in A+ condition and comes custom matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch mat that works perfectly in a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting.
