This is a matted Mid-Century French fashion print that dates to 1946. It originally appeared in a French haute couture fashion magazine purchased by us in Paris. It showcases an evening dress designed by Lucien Lelong and illustrated and signed by Rene Gruau. Lucien Lelong (1889-1958)was a French fashion couturier who had a leading influence in the fashion world. Dior, Balmain and other big fashion names collaborated with him during the the 1940's. Lelong started his career as a couturier of designs that focused on the modern look. He created a style that worked with a body in motion. He designed dresses with narrow pleats that moved with the garment. And, he was one of the first designers to create a ready-to wear line. This print is an elegant design for evening wear. Note the flow of the fabric, the long black gloves and the head piece! It is illustrated by Gruau who was one of the leading fashion illustrators of the 20th century. Gruau’s work was passionate, stunning and explosive. And this print is all that and more. Gruau is highly regarded, recognizable and collectible. This image is perfect for today’s fashionista. The pose and gesture are fantastic!
9.75 x 10.5 inches in size. Excellent clean condition. Comes custom matted in a white 16 x 20 inch mat that works perfectly in a standard size frame.
