D.42 was the signature of André Delfau (1914-2000) who was an internationally acclaimed stage, set, costume and fashion illustrator whose work is characterized by dramatic use of vibrant color and form. He created fashion designs for major Paris couture houses such as Balmain, Patou and Balenciaga.
