The print originally appeared in a French haute couture fashion magazine that catered to the most chic women of the time. Illustrated by Leon Benigni, it exemplifies the Art Deco style which used elongated lines, glamour and a hint of adventure characteristic of the 1920’s. Benigni was a highly respected illustrator and lithographer who did extensive work in fashion illustration. He was commissioned to do fashion illustrations for some of the most famous names in fashion design such as Chanel, Lucien Lelong, and Patou. His work appeared in high society fashion magazines with Parisienne clientele. This image showcases evening wear. Note the details of the dresses, the coat, the draped fabrics, the jewels, the hair styles, etc. etc. etc. And note the furniture and interior space open to the star studded skies.
