This is a matted French Art Nouveau chromolithograph that features botanical decorative designs. It dates to 1902. It came from an unbound album of design images for textile, decorative panels, borders, leather designs etc. This image has a wonderful depth of color and a rich textural quality. Note the intricate detailing of the flower petals and blossoms. Chromolithography was a printing technique used in the 1800s and into the early 1900s. It utilized a technique of applying layers of color to a limestone stone that resulted in images with great clarity that resembled original paintings. This image is a prime example of this technique.
