This is a an original vintage French Art Nouveau chromolithograph of ornamental poppy flowers in various stages of full bloom. They are wonderful detailed and intricate illustration vignettes that date to c1900. It is a work by the well-known designer Habert Dys. The design is from an unbound portfolio published in Paris. Habert Dys (1850-1924) created designs for textiles, ceramics, jewelry, wallpaper, etc and was known for his intricate, detailed, delicate work. Habert Dys was fascinated by Japanese art motifs which were appearing in the western world at the time. This influence evolved with the Art Nouveau movement and personally impacted Habert Dys’ style and creations. This lithograph was probably a design for textiles or wallpaper. It is a wonderful collection of “pavots” (poppies) with blossoms in bloom. Note the intricacy in the petal work. The soft hues in pink, blush, yellow are beautifully rich. The design is signed by the artist in the lower right. Excellent vintage condition. Purchased by us in Paris. 7.25 x 11 inches in size.
