De Feure, a contemporary of Alphonse Mucha, was a versatile graphics artist¸ posterist, and designer who worked in the Art Nouveau genre. He created fine furniture, porcelain, art glass, jewelry, silverware, etc. He was also an acclaimed theatrical set designer and interior designer. His best known works were posters of stylish young women in shades of browns, reds and greens. This image highlights the beauty of the stylized period dress; it showcases the influence and inspiration of Japanese designs and patterns. This image is entitled “Interieur moderne”; it is a beauty of a piece and exemplifies the Art Nouveua elements for which DeFeure is known. De Feure was a “Professor of Decorative Arts’ at the prestigious “Ecole des Beaux-Arts; he exhibited and was awarded gold medals at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. De Feure’s signature is noted in the lower left of the image.
