This is a vintage French print that originally was a story illustration in a French magazine that dates to 1924. It is original to that date and NOT a recent reproduction print. It is an illustration by George Barbier (1882-1932) who is best recognized for his theater, costume, and fashion designs. He worked for Gazette du Bon Ton and the Folies Bergere and had a long successful career. Today his works are highly collectible and have become more difficult to find in excellent condition with the passage of time. This image is entitled "Le Mariage de Delphine". It speaks to love! It celebrates the marriage of a man and woman dressed in 18th century costume. It is a typical work by Barbier in its detailing and intricacies. Take a minute to zoom in on the elaborate work. Barbier's costumes are typically highly stylized period works, flamboyant and glamorous. The image is in pristine condition with no indication of age. Signed in upper right corner. 8.5 x 12.25 inches in size. Comes matted in a neutral tone 16 x 20 inch custom mat ready for a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting.
