This is an original French vintage lithograph by the famed Art Deco illustrator Erté. It originally appeared in a 1926 periodical story about the mysterious allure of gemstones. It is entitled “Le choix d’un cœur”, the heart’s choice. Erté is most famous for his elegant fashion and costume designs which are iconic Art Deco images. They are chic, elegant, sophisticated designs which are highly recognizable worldwide and still influence fashion and art trends today. Erté worked for Paul Poiret in his early career and later designed more than 200 covers for Harper’s Bazaar magazine; in addition he did extensive work for Vogue magazine and designed theater programs and design sets for the Ziegfeld Follies in 1923. This lithograph is signed in the stone with the iconic Erté signature in the lower right corner. The print is clean and pristine (especially the yellow tone). Note the detail lines in the yellow background. It is in excellent condition with no foxing, tears, or folds. It is original to 1926 and NOT a recent reproduction. It has become increasingly more difficult to find with the passage of time. It is 8.5 by 11.5 inches in size and comes matted in a neutral 16 x 20 inch mat which works in a standard size frame.
