This is an original French vintage lithograph by the famed Art Deco illustrator Erté. It originally appeared in a 1926 French periodical. It is original to 1926 and NOT a modern day reproduction. It has become increasingly more difficult to find with the passage of time. It is a richly detailed image called “a view in the looking glass”. The iconic image is of a woman set amidst lushly draped fabrics. It evokes elements of classic Art Deco designs. Erté is most famous for his elegant fashion and costume designs which are iconic Art Deco images. They are chic, elegant, sophisticated designs which are highly recognizable worldwide and still influence fashion and art trends today. Erté worked for Paul Poiret in his early career and later designed more than 200 covers for Harper’s Bazaar magazine; in addition he did extensive work for Vogue magazine and designed theater programs and design sets for the Ziegfeld Follies in 1923. This lithograph is signed in the stone with the iconic Erté signature in the lower right corner. The print is clean and pristine. It is in excellent condition with no foxing, tears, or folds. It is 8 ¼ by 11 ½ inches in size and comes matted in a neutral 16 x 20 inch mat which works in a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting.
