Sterling silver footed basket made by the Alvin Corporation circa 1930 in an Egyptian inspired Art Deco motif that Alvin sold under the pattern name "GIFT LINE". Alvin's Gift Line can be found mentioned in Jewel Stern's MODERNISM IN AMERICAN SILVER book on page 87.
The compote/footed basket is approximately 6 inches in diameter and about 6 inches to the top of the handle. The handle on this basket is fixed in place and is not movable. The basket is marked with the ALVIN name, the word STERLING and the item number 1517. According to Alvin Corp. records, the number was sold as a basket.
This basket is in very good vintage condition show some signs of use consistent with its age. This footed/compote basket is not monogrammed or otherwise engraved. The production run on this pattern was very limited and records indicate that probably less than 250 of these total were ever made.
I do have other Gift Line pieces listed here and may have one or two that have not been photographed and listed yet. Please feel free to contact me and ask what is available.
