A pair of 1838 Dutch silver candle scissors or sometimes called a wick trimmer. Almost the entire pair of scissors is a full figural man in period dress. There is a front and a back to this figure. The arms and the hands form the cutting portion of the wick trimming scissors. (So, long before we had an Edward scissors hands, we had a Hans wick trimmer hands.)
Made entirely of silver, no steel cutting edge, because for trimming a burnt wick, a silver cutting edge works nicely.
In very good antique condition showing age appropriate wear. Both sides of the scissors are fully hallmarked on both the blades and on the finger rings. On the finger ring there appears to be a nick or some damage, but that is just another hallmark from 1838. Overall length of these wick trimmers is approximately 4 inches.
