1 ct D Internally Flawless Diamond 18 Karat Gold Solitaire Ring. Own the perfect diamond!

This diamond has an interesting history. We purchased the stone along with a large estate of fine jewelry. It was a poorly proportioned Old European cut but we saw it's obvious potential because of its purity and wonderful color. Back in the day, cutters chose to save the most weight from the diamond crystal-- this gem was a case of cutting for size over beauty. This particular stone was very shallow, especially by todays standards-- the depth of the diamond compared to it's diameter was only 53%. It had a big look but lacked a bit of brilliance. It weighed 1.12 cts.

After conferring with our master diamond cutter, we realized we would lose too much weight to recut the diamond to ideal proportions-- it would only weigh ~ .9 ct. We decided to recut the diamond into a modern cut with the goal to increase the depth percentage as much as possible, but to retain at least one carat of weight. Our cutter did a masterful job, creating an absolutely gorgeous stone that weighs exactly 1.00 ct. It has better proportions and brightness than it had originally-- it's now a wonderfully bright and sparkly 1 carat diamond.

Because it's still a bit shallow, it faces up bigger than other 1 ct diamonds. Most ideal cut 1 ct diamonds are about 6.4 mm in diameter. Our showy stone is 6.6 mm in diameter.

The stone was graded at the Gemological Institute of America on report # #5172308174 as D color, Internally Flawless (you can look up the report at the GIA website and see the image of the report on this page). The difference between Flawless and Internally Flawless is minute. An Internally Flawless stone has one or more tiny surface features like a polishing line or mark that can be seen at 10x by a skilled diamond grader, while the Flawless stone has nothing that can be seen at 10x, surface or otherwise.

Because of it's cut grade, our D Internally Flawless diamond is selling for substantially less the other 1 ct diamonds of the same color and clarity. The Gem Guide pricing guide used by jewelry appraisers shows the current wholesale for round ideal cut 1 ct D Internally Flawless diamonds at $18,360 per carat. Most dealers would retail the diamond for 15 -25 % over wholesale -- Blue Nile typically marks up diamonds like this 20 %. You would pay $21,115 to $22,950 just for the diamond, not including the mounting. This ring is certainly not inexpensive but you can see it's a great value.

The setting is a wonderful designer solitaire, cast from 18 karat yellow and white gold. It's marked 18K along with the maker's mark. The ring is substantial, weighing 6.8 grams. Condition is excellent.

Finger size is 7

You'll be the envy of your friends showing off your brilliant and sparkly diamond with the best color and clarity possible.
