Luigi Mayer "Passage From the Second to the Third Gallery in the Great Pyramid" Engraving c.1802
Dimensions 9" x 12". The paper with full margins measures 12.5" x 18.5".
Good antique condition. This will look when properly matted and framed.
A very nice find.
Etching with aquatint from a volume of 46 plates showing different views in Egypt. Little is known about Luigi Mayer, who had studied in Rome under Piranesi.
The aquatints produced from Mayer’s original images were executed by Thomas Milton, great-nephew of John Milton, who specialized in the printing and engraving of topographical works.
Published by R. Bowyer in 1802.
