This gorgeous Russian art Nouveau brooch was hand fabricated out of 14 kt rose gold and faceted demantoid green garnets. It is stamped in cryllic in two places. These marks are shown in the photos. The maker , who worked for Faberge during the late 1800's, is Michael Evlampievich Perchin (1860 -1903). He began his career with Faberge as a Journeyman in the workshop of Erik Kollin. In 1884 he qualified as a Master Craftsman. This rose gold/demantoid garnet brooch was hand fabricated from drawn gold wire , tubing, and 6 cast claw buttercup heads.
There are 18 natural, faceted, brilliant cut, prong set, demantoid garnets with a total weight of 4.65 carats. The design at the top portion of the brooch consists of 4 three-leaf shamrocks. The largest garnet is in the bottom drop and measures (0.47ct or almost 1/2 carat) garnet. It has an unusual twisted style C clasp with an extended arm ending in tiny ball .
The brooch is stamped 56 ( Imperial gold Standard mark) with a left looking head which means it was made between 1896 and 1908. There is also another mark in Cryllic.
A jewelers report will be included with the brooch. Please note that the brooch is made of rich Rose gold not Yellow gold as it looks in the photos. In excellent condition and all original.
This brooch has an interesting history. Over 20 years ago it came from a local estate. It had belonged to the grandmother of the woman who was clearing the estate. She said her grandmother brought it with her when she escaped to Canada from Russia during the Revolution. This would have been before 1920. The grand daughter wasn't interested in keeping it.
