A cast bronze medal that was issued to a Pte J. Cleghorn at the end of World War I. On the obverse side of the medal is Winged Victory in all her glory...on the opposite side of the medal is THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919. The Armistice was actually signed in November 1918 but the Treaty of Versailles was signed on the 28th of June 1919. "S-14949 PTE. J. CLEGHORN A. & S.H." is stamped around the edge of the medal...Just the fact that Pte. Cleghorn survived the carnage of World War I is a miracle and he and all the other men who received this medal certainly deserved it! I haven't polished it so it has its original patina...the original silk ribbon from which it hangs is worn and in fact split right through at the top. The medal itself is 1 3/8" in diameter by 1/8" thick, the ribbon is 3.5" long.
