This is a hand painted, stamped and engraved small 19th Century Brass Box ...the miniature painting was painted directly onto the brass lid and has a tidy hidden hinge. I am only guessing but I would say it was made in India because of the style of the engraved design and made for the English market because of the style and subject matter of the miniature painting...a western style basket overflowing with English "cottage" flowers.
It measures: 3.25" wide by 2" front to back by 1" high.
Condition: There is paint loss on the basket. Patina has formed on the metal on the outside mostly and inside a small amount which I didn't want to polish off. There is some advanced discoloration of the metal on the underside of the box. Please look closely at my photos.
