A stunning Art Deco brooch of rubies, diamonds, and pearl, how can you not love that! Given the plump body shape and six legs I would say this is a bee. With deep red Ruby eyes and 3 diamonds on each of the 4 wings for a total of 12 diamonds, all gems tested and confirmed. The Pearl measures 7.15mm, total width of 33.74mm by height of 25.87mm or 1.32 inches by 1 inch. The brooch is a mixture of platinum and 18k gold. The wings of the piece including the center of the body are platinum, the legs and trombone pin and clasp are of 18k. It is difficult to show in photo but if you view the piece from the back, the wings are surrounded in 18k yellow gold like a frame. This is on the back of the piece, it is original to the piece and design adding addition dimension to this fabulous piece. This piece is not marked but has been tested and verified.
I have seen a few variations of this style. I have see it in 14k gold with garnet eyes, with 14k yellow gold body, in 18k gold and usually only a few diamonds in the piece. I have not personally seen one with 12 diamonds as this piece. Though the diamonds are small, it does add a dimension of sparkle to the piece. These examples rarely come up, this is also the largest I have seen. Weight is 6.6 grams.
The pin part is slightly bowed but does not effect its closure, slots into the trombone clasp and locks tight. This piece is in very nice condition. I enjoyed wearing it as a pendant so I am enclosing with purchase a bail that slides onto the pin. This converter is only 1/20th 14k gold but it is in excellent condition and unlikely to ever turn. I just love these converters for old brooches so that they may be worn as pendants.
Though the piece is not marked it has been tested and confirmed as Platinum and 18k gold as described above. A very elegant and quite rare piece.
