This beautiful Standish or inkstand is in excellent condition. Made by Carrington & Co., London, England in 1899-1900. The Standish has three silver inset holders for the three cylindrical pots. Two of the pots are hinged and the third is slide on. There is a fleur-de-lis handle in the rear. There is a recessed elongated holder in front for writing utensils. Each pot and lid is marked with the Carrington & Co. makers mark. lion and year mark for 1899-1900. The bottom of the tray is marked the same also with the Carrington & Co. logo, and 130 Regent St., London.
Carrington & Co. was founded in 1780 in London as a high end silversmith and retailer. They were also court jewelers for Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Edward VII, George V as well Tsar Nicholas I and II and Queen Alexandra of Russia. Many of their pieces are in museums.
The tray of the Standish is 6 5/8" by 3 5/8", overall depth including the handle is 6 3/8". Each pot is 1 9/16" tall and 1 1/2" wide at the lid. The combined weight with the pots is 12.4 ozt.
