Presented here is a contemporary artisan necklace made with Rare "shrimp glass" thread beads from old Japan and a new coral and sterling silver clasp. The necklace measures 20 inches in length and weighs 2.5 oz.
The glass beads date from the 1930s and were made in old Japan prior to WWII. The beads were hand-made of milk-white glass with a coral pink color of glass randomly mixed into them. A thin white "thread" of glass was added to the outside of the beads after the coral and white beads had cooled. Thread beads were made throughout Japan. The kiln process was delicate and the glass "threading" chipped easily. This explains why a strand of these delicate beads is rare. Each bead is unique and measures about 9 mm round. They are (NOS) new old stock that have not been previously sold to the public or made into jewelry. The 20-inch long necklace has a new oval-shaped sterling silver tab clasp, bezel set with a genuine coral cabochon.
This contemporary artisan necklace made with vintage glass beads is a refreshing alternative to a strand of pearls! It is a beautiful piece that will be sent to you in a gift box for giving or keeping.
